Invalid NYC Traffic Ticket. Was the Cop Sloppy or is He Helping Me Beat the Rap Because Of the Cirstances?

Exited my Brooklyn, NY home in sweats to let my neighbor out of shared driveway. Circling block and got pulled over. It seems the expiry date on my temp plate (new car) was partially obscured. Under the cirstances I also didn’t have my license (or shoes) on me. Explained the situation; also mentioned that my cousin is a Sergeant in the narcotics division. The cop let me go on the plate violation but gave me a ticket for code 509.1 "unlicensed operator” (which is a 0 point violation). There are two errors on ticket: 1) He filled in “Registration Expires” as 4/3/10 but my paper reg clearly showed it was 4/19/10. 2) He filled in “Date Affirmed” as 4/3/10 but today’s date is 4/12/10. I'm relatively sure that he was being a good egg and helping me beat the rap by screwing up the ticket but then again he could have been not-all-that-competent. Is there any way to get it dismissed by mail as invalid instead of having to go to court just to show the invalid ticket and ask for dismissal? According to what I've read online I can get it dismissed in court by showing my license so I'm kind of thinking he was giving me a way to avoid court altogether.
