Please tell me i haven't been to the dentist before.?

i haven't been to the dentist before i'm a new arrival here. someone told me that the dentists do not accept the health care or medicare card for the consultation as i always do when i want to see the doctor. can anyone tell me please for about how much i can pay if i want to see the dentist? in american(usa) dollars or australian dollars. thanks very much.
