Why does Verizon Fios with Motorola set top box loses feed every few minutes?

I am having an annoying problem with my Verizon Fios tv service. Every few minutes or so, the feed will go out and show static for about 1-2 seconds before going back (also makes annoying crackling noise). Although I can rewind the DVR and play and the blip doesn't exist. It seems like turning off the box and back on seems to help for a little while. Has anyone else had this issue? I have a feeling Verizon will tell me I need a new, more expensive HDMI cable and I don't want to waste my money if it's the box.
