These characters were indeed real people whom Hersey wrote about just after the war 1946. In 1985 he published a chapter called Aftermath in which he describes the lives of these people 40 years later. I think you will need to find the 1985 version and look at that chapter for info on these people. I couldn't find anything on them on the internet.
